About the Role

We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to contribute to a major European initiative focused on reducing energy consumption in large-scale edge computing environments. You will develop advanced AI/ML models to improve energy efficiency across infrastructure layers including hardware, software, networking, IoT devices, and operational processes.

The role involves close collaboration with engineering teams, sustainability experts, external partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to build AI-driven orchestration mechanisms for sustainable cloud and edge computing ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement AI/ML models that optimize energy usage across edge computing infrastructure—covering resource allocation, workload scheduling, load balancing and orchestration.
  
• Apply predictive algorithms to anticipate power demands and minimize unnecessary energy consumption in real time.
  
• Conduct research into state-of-the-art approaches in green AI, energy-aware algorithms, computationally efficient ML models and sustainable computing.
  
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and sustainability partners to ensure alignment with broader environmental and efficiency objectives.
  
• Evaluate modern tools and platforms for data collection, AI model development, and sustainability-focused orchestration.
  
• Implement techniques such as edge-based data processing and federated learning to reduce high-volume data transfers and associated energy usage.
  

Requirements

You will succeed if you have:

• Strong experience with AI/ML development tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
  
• Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to extract insights from large datasets and apply them to optimize energy efficiency.
  
• Experience developing ML solutions with measurable real-world impact.
  
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional and multi-organizational teams.
  
• Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present concepts and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  
• Interest and motivation in sustainability, energy efficiency, green AI and environmentally conscious innovation.
  
• English at B2+ level or German at B2+level.
