Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Engineer

As an experienced Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineer, you will lead our virtual desktop infrastructure operations while planning and executing our strategic migration to cloud-based VDI solutions. You will maintain and optimize our existing Citrix environment while designing and implementing a transition to Azure VDI, Windows 365, or other suitable alternatives. This role requires balancing current operational excellence with future-focused migration planning to ensure seamless, scalable, performant and cost-optimized highly intensive graphical virtual desktop solutions with special attention for rapid onboarding during company acquisitions.

•Maintain, optimize, and manage Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, Citrix NetScaler/ADC/VPX, Citrix Gateway Service, Citrix Workspace Environment Management (WEM), Citrix App Layering, Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper V, VMWare ESXi

•Improve Citrix performance, security, and cost efficiency through best practices.

•Evaluate and design next generation VDI alternatives (AVD, Windows 365, or other competitive solutions).

•Lead the migration process to the selected VDI platform, ensuring integration with business systems.

•Support and solutions design for rapid integration of newly acquired companies into the VDI environment.

•Design, manage next generation VDI infrastructure and solutions

•Automate infrastructure tasks using PowerShell and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

•Implement security and compliance measures, including MFA, zero-trust, and access policies.

•Troubleshoot complex Citrix and VDI-related issues, providing expert-level support.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent with 4-5 years of experience in the field

Proven expertise in Citrix (CVAD, ADC, DaaS, Cloud) and VDI platforms (AVD, Windows 365) with large-scale deployments.

Strong skills in troubleshooting, optimization, automation (PowerShell, IaC), and performance/cost management.

Solid understanding of Azure AD, Entra ID, Intune, GPO, MFA, and hybrid identity/security concepts.

Experience in M&A IT integration and high-availability/disaster recovery for VDI environments.

Relevant certifications (CCE-V, Azure Architect, AVD Specialty)

Fluent English; German is a plus.
